I haven’t been too controversial as of late, mostly because my soul needed to breathe and take a step back for a lot of self-care but after yet another mass shooting in this country, it’s impossible to remain silent and complacent on the issues that our elected officials fail to address with action and improved policy.
Because the pro-gun people will never admit that this has a lot to do with our laws governing the right to bear arms in this country and the easy access to weapons, they often like to shift the focus to mental health. While I don’t disagree with that approach entirely…let’s be honest, they don’t vote to fund that either…so kindly shut up.
This is also a great time to talk about the pro-life debate since we all know that Christians like to think they govern in this country by shouting about what’s in their mythical book. We seem to care more about unborn fetuses than we do about the living children in our schools who are simply taught to run, hide, and fight when faced with an active shooter instead of creating meaningful policies to protect our children. The burden should never be placed on the backs of the children.
So, when do we say enough! When do we vote for real change or elect officials who will not fold to the will of gun lobbyists because they are on their bankroll. The “thoughts and prayers” don’t seem to be working much anymore and sadly we have become desensitized to this type of violence.
I’m just sad and a little tired of the rhetoric in this country. The constant trivial nature that we mock our elected officials instead of using our voices to enact real change is also sad.
Amanda Gorman said it best with this…
“It takes a monster to kill children.
But to watch monsters kill children again and again and do nothing isn’t just insanity.
It’s inhumanity.
The truth is, one nation under guns.”
Full stop! Everything else is just noise.
