I love lists.
I write lists all the time.
My life is a list.
My lists sometimes include quotes (I always try to give credit if I know where a quote originated.)
Today, a Facebook “friend” reposted one of my old New Year’s Day lists as his own. Didn’t tag me. Still didn’t tag me after I commented. Just left it out there as his work. I’m annoyed. I’m disappointed. I’m actually pissed.
Then I remembered this great quote from Oscar Wilde “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness.”
Now, I’m laughing. Go enjoy, mediocrity! I’ll be over here being great!
For reference…below is said list.
“Best of” Edition: New Years Eve
1. Fact check that hateful political post and/or questionable news story prior to posting it. Some of y’all still spewing nonsense around here.
2. Take a moment to realize that the life you complain about is one of the most precious gifts; and it’s a gift that so many others no longer have the opportunity to enjoy. It’s been a hard year of loss for a lot of people. If you escaped it without grieving more than a missed sporting event, or a happy hour at your favorite watering hole…count your blessings.
3. For a change of pace…Champion what you love, instead of bashing what you hate.
4. Eat the dessert…always! And also make yourself a promise to move your ass often! It’s a balance…
5. A wise man once said, “Don’t listen to criticism from someone you wouldn’t seek advice from.”
6. “Do you want to vent or do you want advice?” This might be the most important question to ask when a friend or a loved one is upset.
7. Full Offense: If I openly communicate the ways your actions and words have hurt me and you choose to ignore my truth because it challenges you…then I won’t feel bad for removing you. I don’t have the space for immaturity, manipulation, projection, or passive behavior.
8. I’m too thick to argue. Can’t hear you over all this ass.
9. If you don’t heal from what hurt you, you will bleed on people who didn’t cut you.
10. I do not like being told what to do unless I am naked…and even then I’m still sassy.
Happy New Year! ✌🏼♥️ (If you know who said any of the above, let me know, I will give them proper credit.)
